Kynoch Park Lichts Up!

Let there be licht! - wiz the shout
A’ aroon Kynoch Park
The floodlichts were aboot tae be ignited
So – Maroons fans werena’ left in the dark

It hid been a lang time in comin’
The cables hid been laid for a wee file
Bit fin they cam’ on - oh sae bricht
The best in the league bi’ a mile

Twinty Thoosan’ powens it cost
Twinty fower lichts on six big poles
They fair lichted up the Stadium
Ye cwid see fae the tap eynd doon tae bottom goals

A lot o’ fundraisin’ hid been deen
Thoosan’s o’ lottery tickets were selt
“Ye’ll be astonished fin they’re kindled up”
That’s fit abiddy wiz telt

There wid be nae mair early kick affs
At 1.30 in the aifterneen
Dark Setterdays in the Winter
The players wid a’ be weel seen

A fyow trial runs were deen
Switched ontae wirk at full bore
There wiz a michty glow ower Balloch Road
Comin’ hame fae my wirk at Aultmore

We were a’ getting’ fair excited
For the first game anaith the lichts
Nae mair dark aifterneens
Even better – lichtit up on a’ the dark nichts

The switch on shoulda’ been against Huntly
In atween the Christmas an’ New ‘Eer dine
Bit the sna’ pit peyd tae that chance
On Setterday 29th December 1979

Bit the occasion wiz only delayed
It cam’ again tae pass
Against Forres Mechanics- 16th January 1980
An’ the lichts shone on the sna’ covered grass

The fans they troopit in
Pullin’ doon the lever tae spark up the shinin’ lichts
Were Maroons stalwarts Dod Lemon an’ Jock Rennie
It wiz een o’ thon marvellous sichts

It wizna a game tae mind on
We didna’ hit the hichts
Bit Bruce “Skipper” Martin nabbed a late winner
Wi’ the first goal anaith the Kynoch Park lichts

There’s been mony a great game since
The ‘eers hiv fairly flown by
Bit fowk still recall that first time
The switch on lichtit up the “Field o’ Dreams” sky
